Having begun life as the sub label for 90's institution Hooj, Airtight has spent 11 years quietly putting out quality deep house, bits of proto-nu disco, and the odd club classic.
The label's output has always been a touch sporadic, which explains why this is the vinyl sampler from the first compilation after a decade, but hopefully the depth and breadth of music on offer on the comp, and hinted at here, gives a decent insight into the standards the label has maintained throughout .
Things open up as they did back in the 90's with Francois Kevorkians gorgeous mix of Ame Strongs' French Language "Tout Est Blue". Next up is a new one from Japanese producer Atsushi Yano, "Room Safari" is a rolling, hypnotic and tough jazzy houser, somewhere between Jeff Mills and Restless Souls.
The flipside opens with a mesmeric slab of deep tackle from new-comer Tony Underground, that to these ears sounds like it's crossing oriental harmonies with Afro flavours. Things finally round off with possibly the best-selling mix of one our favourite tunes; The organic psychedelics are once again giving an airing with Justin Martins mix of "Mushrooms" from Marshall Jefferson and the Noosa Heads.
